in good taste: project runway all stars winner, mondo guerra

unconventional?  yes.  bazaaro?  yes.  project runway…popstar?  you bet your bag of popchips.  the wait to see if denver darling mondo guerra will earn the coveted top spot on lifetime’s project runway all stars is over. the fashion designer (and hiv/aids activist) sealed his fate as the next “who’s who” when it comes to fashion and design, winning the first ever project runway all stars season finale.

it’s no secret that we’ve been snacking in style alongside the fan favorite fashionista all season long, so mondo taking the crown comes as no surprise to us.  so last night, we were happy to chip in to the project runway all stars finale watch party in denver.  and what an event it was.  the “mondo bazaaro bazaar” featured a carnival-themed atmosphere where guests indulged their inner child with nostalgic games, activities and prizes!

special project runway guests ivy higa & casanova from season 8, anya & fallene from season 9, and all star muse model jessamine kelley joined us for a spectacular, star-studded evening.  not only that, all guests got a taste of what (we think) is mondo’s best accessory, a bag of popchips, of course!  it was catwalk meets snackwalk as these fashion starved fans kicked off their stilettos and noshed on their favorite bag of pop.  popchips also gave a few lucky guests the chance to snack in style alongside mondo in the popchips vip (very important popstar) watch lounge.

we have to admit, what caught our eye about mondo was not just his mix-and-match, unconventional and colorful looks.  i mean, that helped.  but, mondo is also all about being generous.  this is one of the principles of pop that we hold dear.  we are incredibly lucky to be doing what we’re doing.  and it’s our responsibility to share with each other.  as well as give back to the larger snacking community.  so, #teamMONDO, popchips and colorado area whole foods have teamed up to give back to denver colorado aids project (mondo’s favorite charity).  from now until march 27th, we are chipping in a portion of proceeds of popchips sales to dcap, proving that snacking with a conscience is always in good taste.

naturally, we have an affinity for little round circles. with the new google+ business pages, we’re excited to join your circles with ours.

google+ is the latest social network to join the party. launched earlier this summer by the same company that made searching the web and finding whatever you needed so easy. they’re hoping to make sharing as easy as finding.

tiff 2011: lights. camera. snack!

tomorrow marks the 36th annual toronto international film festival (tiff), where over 300 films from 60 countries will be screened at 32 locations throughout downtown toronto.

each year, the city buzzes with the energy of nearly 260,000 people, anxiously awaiting a film, a party, an after-party, or a glimpse of their favourite (that’s canadian for “favorite”) hollywood movie stars!

 

since every movie needs a snack wingman, you’ll find our toronto popstars sharing the popchips love (37,680 bags of popchips love, to be exact) all around town! we will be invading the intercontinental as the official snack at the tastemakers lounge, the alliance atlantis lounge, and etalk daily lounge. plus, we’re popping into parties with the canadian film centre (cfc), diet coke, and stella artois! you can also snag our bags all week at the yorkville pusateri’s.

fashion’s night out

it has been a longtime dream of mine to attend fashion week, and i can now cross it off the bucket list, because mercedes benz fashion week, here i come!

this thursday, september 8th, fashionistas across the country will take to the streets and shop til their heart’s content, scooping up deals and new looks, checking each other out all the while.

i’ll be at the popchips playland event at fashion’s night out ny – at 14th street plaza, 14th street at 9th avenue, in the meatpacking district, from 7-11pm – hanging with some of the most stylish people in the city.  if you happen to be in nyc, stop by!  if you can’t make it, i’ll be tweeting and instagramming from the event, so you can join in on all the festivities…

but the age old question remains: what am i going to wear?  luckily, some fashion forward friends of mine will be helping me with some looks when i arrive, so now i’ve just got to pack my shoe options – all 25 of them.  what would you wear?

my first meeting as vp of pop culture

got plaid?

did i ever think i’d have a revelation about pop culture while sitting under a grizzly bear’s junk? uh, that would be no. however…

after brief introductions, i took a seat under a giant bear painting in ashton’s office and then he asked me, “so, what is pop culture? what makes something pop?” whoa, hey guess we’re skipping the whole “where you from?” small talk and getting right to it. trying not to sound super-lame i aimed for something simultaneously witty, casual and insightful. failed. his energy was intense, even intimidating, as he spoke with passion about taking a stand in pop culture.

i had never analyzed what makes something pop, or what draws the public’s attention, i’ve focused on what i’ve needed to do to get and keep a job. small thinking predicated on necessity, but here was ashton kutcher asking me: “what are you passionate about?” and “what is it that you want to say?” whoa. a direct challenge to dream bigger, just like the sign outside his front door. this is the job.

he explained that he doesn’t want reporting on pop culture, but that he and popchips are interested in making pop culture. looking at it differently than what we’ve already seen. dude. that’s a real tall order. sweet. this year is going to be an adventure.

so, off we go…into the exploration of what pop culture is, and i’m happy to invite you along…just as soon as i get out from under this grizzly bear’s junk.
